What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device — computer, smartphone, tablet, or wearable — by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the website's owners about how their site is being used.
A cookie typically contains:
- The name of the cookie (an identifier)
- A value — the information the cookie stores
- A domain — the website the cookie belongs to
- An expiry date — when the cookie will be deleted automatically
- A path — the part of the website the cookie applies to
Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or install software on your device. They are simply small data files stored in your browser.
Types of cookies by duration
- Session cookies — These are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser. They allow our website to link your actions during a browser session, such as remembering items you have viewed.
- Persistent cookies — These remain on your device for a set period of time (the duration is specified for each cookie in this policy). They are activated each time you visit the website that created them. Persistent cookies are used for things like remembering your login preferences or cookie consent choices.
Types of cookies by origin
- First-party cookies — Set directly by Bionic Ring on bionicring.com. Only bionicring.com can read these cookies.
- Third-party cookies — Set by third-party services we use, such as analytics tools or advertising platforms. These services may be able to track you across multiple websites.
Similar technologies — such as web beacons (also called tracking pixels), local storage, IndexedDB, and device fingerprinting — can serve similar functions to cookies and are also covered by this policy wherever applicable.
Why we use cookies
Bionic Ring uses cookies for the following purposes:
- To make our website work correctly — certain cookies are strictly necessary to allow you to navigate the website, access secure areas, and use essential features such as the shopping basket and user account login.
- To remember your preferences — functional cookies allow us to remember your settings, such as language, currency, region, and cookie consent choices, so you do not need to re-enter them on each visit.
- To understand how visitors use our site — analytics cookies tell us how you arrived at our site, which pages you visit, how long you spend on them, and whether you encounter any errors. This helps us continuously improve bionicring.com.
- To personalise your experience — with your consent, we may use cookies to show you content and recommendations that are relevant to your interests, such as the Bionic Eve or Bionic Adam products most relevant to your health goals.
- To measure the effectiveness of our marketing — with your consent, marketing cookies help us understand which of our advertising campaigns and channels are most effective at reaching people who are interested in our products.
- To prevent fraud and maintain security — some cookies help us identify and prevent malicious or fraudulent activity, including attempts to access accounts without authorisation.
Types of cookies we use
We classify our cookies into four categories, consistent with the guidance of the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and the EU's ePrivacy Directive. The categories are explained in sections 3.1 to 3.4 below, including which cookies require your consent and which do not.
Consent requirements under PECR and UK GDPR: Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent as they are essential for the website to function. All other categories require your explicit, informed consent before we set them. You can withdraw or update your consent at any time using the preference panel in Section 7 of this policy.

Third-party cookies
Some cookies on bionicring.com are set by third-party services whose functionality we embed in our website. These third parties operate independently and have their own privacy policies. We recommend reading them to understand their data practices.
- Google LLC — Privacy Policy. Google provides analytics (Google Analytics 4) and advertising (Google Ads) services. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Meta Platforms, Inc. — Privacy Policy. Meta operates Facebook and Instagram advertising. We have a Data Processing Agreement with Meta covering the use of Meta Pixel data.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — Privacy Policy. Cloudflare provides content delivery, security, and DDoS protection. Their cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function securely.
- Hotjar Ltd — Privacy Policy. Hotjar provides heatmap and session recording analytics. All personal data is processed within the EU.
- Intercom, Inc. — Privacy Policy. Intercom provides our live chat support system. Data may be processed in the US under Standard Contractual Clauses.
- TikTok Technology Limited — Privacy Policy. TikTok advertising tracking, used only if you have given marketing consent.
- Pinterest Europe Limited — Privacy Policy. Pinterest advertising tracking, used only if you have given marketing consent.
Bionic Ring does not control how these third-party services use data they collect. However, we only permit third-party cookies on our site that are proportionate, necessary for a stated purpose, and subject to an appropriate Data Processing Agreement where required.
Cookies and health data
Bionic Ring is a health technology company. We understand that health data — including sleep patterns, heart rate variability, menstrual cycle data, fertility information, and activity data collected by your Bionic Ring wearable — is among the most sensitive personal data that exists.
We want to be unambiguous about the following:
- Health data collected by your ring and the Bionic Ring app is stored separately from website cookie data and is subject to our Health Data Privacy Policy, which contains additional protections beyond those described in this Cookie Policy.
- We never combine your health metrics with marketing or advertising cookies. Your heart rate, HRV, sleep stages, menstrual cycle data, fertility window, or any other biometric data collected by the ring or app is never shared with Meta, Google, TikTok, or any other advertising platform.
- Hotjar is configured to automatically mask all health data input fields in the Bionic Ring account and app dashboard. Session recordings never capture biometric data.
- We process health data on the lawful basis of your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR), which you give separately when setting up your Bionic Ring account.
If you are a Bionic Eve user, cycle data, fertility tracking information, and temperature baselines are considered special category health data under UK GDPR. This data is encrypted at rest and in transit, is never used for advertising targeting, and can be permanently deleted on your request.
Managing your cookie preferences
You can update your cookie preferences at any time using the panel below. Your choices will be saved in your browser for 13 months, after which we will ask for your consent again. Note: if you clear your browser cookies, your preferences will be reset and you will be asked again on your next visit.
Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal. Some website features may not work correctly if you decline functional or analytics cookies.
